Unless you’re new around here you know we are moving. We sold our house, we found a new house, we’ve packed up all of our stuff and now we’re moving.
When we get to our new house- first up- fix a few safety type issues. Then get rid of the hideous wallpaper. It’s actually not that bad, but it’s still bad. Then we will be doing some work on the deck and tearing out ugly carpet in the master bedroom and the dining room. There is beautiful hardwood floors underneath and we are hoping it is in good condition.
We may want to hire some College Pro Painters too because I’ve done the painting thing and I don’t like it! Then we’ll settle in and enjoy our new home.
So what’s been happening? I haven’t been blogging much lately. I have been sooooo busy with this whole moving process.
We spent all of last Saturday and Sunday looking at houses. On Saturday we saw three houses we liked. On Sunday we didn’t see any so we went back to two from Saturday we liked. Then later we took my parents and showed them our top two choices. Everyone agreed on one house so we called our agent and said we wanted to make an offer. We went in first thing Monday morning to make an offer on our favorite house. While we were making the offer the other agent called and said they were getting another offer too. The other offer was better, so we lost out on that house.
Our second choice had some bad things about it that I didn’t notice because I loved the neighborhood and the house so much. But it had some major things that would need to be fixed. Plus it was next to an elementary school and my mom pointed out how loud that would be with the kids outside. Our third choice had very high taxes.
So we looked a little more. On Wednesday night this log home that we have been dreaming about that was out of our price range came way down in price. So we went to look at it, sure that this was the one. It wasn’t. There were major issues.
We’ve decided to go back and make another offer on the very first house we tried to get a month ago, it’s still available. Maybe if we raise our offer a little the sellers will come down a little. If not we’ll be looking again. Eventually we will find the right house, I know that. But right now I am soooo frustrated.
Once we find the perfect house I am going to take pictures of it and create a postcard to send out to all of our family and friends. They’ll be able to see our new house and get our new address. You can do just that at VistaPrint- customize your own postcards. I think it’ll be a fun way to let everyone know where we are and what our new home looks like.
We are getting ready to head out of town in a few days to work on our house hunting that has been so very unsuccessful so far. I know I’ve mentioned it before but again I have to say that one of the main things I look at in a home is the kitchen and boy have I seen some kitchens that need some major updating. I would love to have a kitchen with a ceramic tile backsplash, nice granite counter top, new appliances, tile floor, etc. Is that too much to ask? Apparently.
So instead I will take a kitchen that has enough room to move around in. One with plenty of counter space- or room to put in some counter space. Plenty of cabinets, or room to add more cabinets. Then I can do a little renovating and a little shopping around to get the kitchen I want. So as long as there is enough room, I’ll take it.
One place I want to do some shopping is at the Glasstilestore.com- they have a great selection of glass tiles that I could use to make the kitchen just exactly how I want it to be. So, this weekend I am going to find the perfect house with a big kitchen and then make it my own.
As we search for our new home I have really been paying attention to more details than I did the last time we moved. I think after having lived in our house for almost 6 years I know what I love and what I do not love. As we have looked there have been some kitchens that I loved so much I wanted the rest of the house no matter what.
One house had a beautifully redone kitchen with stainless steel appliances. How fabulous would some stainless steel cooking-ware look in a kitchen like that? Or what if the dining room had a fireplace with blomus stainless steel fireplace accessories? Another thing that would really improve the curb appleal of your house would be a fantastic looking blomus stainless steel mailbox.
We’re getting ready to head out of town again to do more searching- and I’m going to be looking at all of the details!
